In Memory - Commissioner Ivar R. Segalowitz, who served as Great Neck Park District Commissioner from 2003 through 2011, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2014.
Born in Lithuania in 1930, Commissioner Segalowitz was a concentration camp survivor who lived in France for two years after his liberation and immigrated to the United States in 1947. Commissioner Segalowitz had helped bring a tremendous “engineer’s perspective” to the Park District, leading the Park District into undertaking a major co-generation project at the Parkwood Sports Complex, which has allowed the Park District to replace aging equipment and improve comfort levels for the public, while saving energy costs for the taxpayers.
He will surely be missed by all who knew him.
The Andrew Stergiopoulus Ice Skating Rink is now closed for the summer.
