A park card is required to enter all parks.
Steppingstone Park [Steppingstone
Lane, 487-9228] overlooks Long Island
Sound and is home to the marina, which
offers mooring facilities, the Steppingstone
Sailing School, a boat launching ramp
and a fishing dock. Also at Steppingstone:
a summer preschool program for tots, a children's party
room, children's playground, wading pool
and aqua park, a snack shop, picnic tables,
restrooms- and, in July and August- the
Steppingstone Waterside Theatre.
Steppingstone
Waterside Theatre is a summer tradition
in the Park District. On Saturday and
Sunday evenings, a stage uses Long Island
Sound as a backdrop. As the sun sets,
residents enjoy a wide variety of live
entertainment. On July 4th there are clowns,
pony rides, face-painting and an afternoon
of live music. There are activities on
Labor Day including a special season finale,
with a not-to-be-missed performance.
Memorial
Field [Fairview Avenue, 773-3420],
also called the Athletic Field, has 16
Har-Tru tennis courts, softball &
baseball diamonds, soccer fields, handball
& basketball courts and a playground.
It's open until dusk in the summer with
maintenance and security personnel on
the premises. Restrooms are available.
The tennis courts open, weather permitting,
on or about May 1. Eight courts close
on or about Nov. 20 and the remaining
eight close on or about Dec. 15, or the
first freeze. Weather permitting, the
courts are open from 9 a.m. to dark.
Allenwood
Park [Allenwood Road, 487-4360] facilities
include softball diamonds, 5 all-weather
tennis courts, a basketball court, an
aqua park and children's play areas. Also
on the premises are pheasants, rabbits
and a duck pond. Staff is on hand to maintain
the park and tend the animals. Restroom
facilities are available. Tennis courts
are open year round from 9 a.m. to dusk.
Kings
Point Park [Steamboat Road or Redbrook
Road, 482-9257] has more than five miles
of trails for hiking and cross-country
skiing-a total of 175 acres in all. It
has 26 picnic areas with tables and outdoor
grills. It also includes four softball
diamonds, four Har-Tru tennis courts,
two all-weather basketball courts, a soccer
field, horseshoe pitching and a sled hill
for winter enjoyment. There are restrooms
on premises. The tennis courts are open
on or about May 15 and close on or about
Oct. 15. Weather permitting, in full season,
the courts are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Village
Green & Rose Garden [Middle Neck
Road, 482-0181] is home to our Veterans'
Memorial, along with a formal rose garden,
gazebo, a bandstand for concerts, a senior
exercise course and a children's playground.
Park personnel are on premises for maintenance
and security.
